Plantenga's Cleaners opened their doors in 1962 led by Henry Plantenga. Henry proved himself as a hard worker after being the route driver for Jim Robbins and his "Modern Cleaners". Henry chose to name the business after himself so no one could tell him the name "wasn't available".
The fact that Henry was of Dutch descent and had the name to prove it helped his customers feel they were in good hands. Plantenga built a team who would take great pride in making their customer's wardrobes "Dutch clean".
Henry's hard work and commitment to excellence carried him through the great times as well as the more trying times. Fortunately, the old adage, "What comes around, goes around" is especially true in fashion. As Henry began his business venture in the '60s, natural fabrics such as cottons and wools were very popular. Then, the polyester era ensued. Known best for its baby blue leisure suits, this period posed new challenges to dry cleaners across the country. Once again, fashioned cycled through and dictated the use of natural fibers such as cotton, silk, linen and wools, Henry could once again operate a healthy, vibrant business.

Currently, the business is second generation owned. Henry's focus of quality work and exceptional service has continued through the hands of two of his eight children, Allan and LeAnn. Our approach of treating your wardrobe as if it were our very own continues to position Plantenga's Cleaners as West Michigan's "Cleaners of Choice". Building on our humble beginnings in the little Village of Spring Lake, we now serve other West Michigan communities such as Grand Haven, Allendale, Coopersville, Muskegon, Holland and Zeeland. We offer both drop off stores as well as pickup and delivery service to selected markets.

What is Dry Cleaning?
While doing laundry is a common household chore, the concept of what dry cleaning actually is remains a mystery to many. Dry cleaning is a process that cleans without water... thus, the term "dry" cleaning. The cleaning fluid that is used is a liquid solvent. At Plantenga's, we utilize perchloroethylene (perc for short) which we believe to be the very best cleaning solvent in today's market. Your garments are actually immersed and cleaned in this liquid solvent.
As your dry cleaning professional, we recognize our responsibility to our customers, our employees, our neighbors and our community to be environmentally safe. To that end, we have invested in state-of-the-art dry cleaning systems that wash, extract and dry all in one unit. Performing all three steps in a single perforated, stainless steel basket results in the recovery of the cleaning agents.
With daily monitoring of our equipment we ensure the degree of soil removal, the color brightness, the freshness, the softness and the removal of odors results in the best possible cleaning.
Our Mission:
At Plantenga's Cleaners our goal is to protect your wardrobe investment through our superior dry cleaning and laundry processes. As a family owned business, we excel by caring about our customers and serving the communities in which they live.
